Build a Life Project
During this project we were tasked with learning what living is like after high school, we chose a career based on some online testing/researching we did. We chose the location we would like to live in and found out how much college costs in that location, student loans, housing, buying a car, gas, insurance, cell phone, internet, streaming services, and other memberships.
After finishing my “Build a Life” project I learned living in Maui is extremely difficult without going into debt. I found this valuable because I got a sense of what it means to manage expenses. I didn’t learn anything about the cost of water since I chose to live in Maui. Since I don’t pay any bills currently I was surprised by the cost of Healthcare. My starting salary was not enough to cover my monthly expenses but working multiple jobs such as playing at churches, teaching people how to play guitar, and playing background music could get me to $50,000 for my gross annual income. I applied my Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy Skills to this project because it prepared me to make appropriate personal economic choices. I also learned about the business process of being a musician.
Junior Project
Final Progress Presentation
First Progress Presentation
This assignment is my Junior Project. I haven't completed this yet but this is Ms. Lindsey's (the main teacher of the class) description of the project, "You may use your junior project to begin this inner excavation—building upon an already developed interest or passion, or you may choose to learn about something new entirely." I'm really into music and specifically Jimi Hendrix. That's why I did my project on him. I'm learning his song Hear My Train A Comin' and will make an educational video about him. This assignment addresses the Self-Directional skill because I've been doing this project by myself mostly.
I’m proud that I have been able to learn about Jimi and learn his song Hear My Train A Comin' (acoustic). Learning his song is difficult and has taken me lots of hours since I'm trying to get the song note for note. Also, I developed trigger thumb in both of my hands (it's worse in my left thumb) so that hasn't helped me. I also have all 100's on my Instagram posts. Ms. Lindsey also said I had a really good progress presentation and said she can really tell how much passion I have for this project. I improved my Self-Directional Skills because I've never done a school project like this before. The hardest thing about his assignment was definitely, learning the song.
I could've done better by not procrastinating so much and I could've done things better with managing my time in the beginning as well. I learned how to record myself while playing the guitar and obviously learned more about Jimi and learned his song.
